INTERACTIVE PLANNING ASSESSMENT

Should I Renovate or Rebuild?

For many Scottsdale-area homes, the answer depends less on age than on how much of the existing structure can support the home you actually want. This assessment organizes the first questions worth answering before you commit to a direction.

Start With the Property, Not a Blanket Rule

The goal is not to tell you that renovation or rebuilding is universally “better.” It is to identify which path deserves closer study first and where property-specific information matters most.

What Actually Changes the Answer

Structural and layout limitations, the extent of mechanical/electrical/plumbing replacement, foundation and site constraints, major additions or second stories, ceiling-height and opening goals, HOA or municipal review, uncertainty hidden inside an older home, timing, neighborhood value context, design goals, and any existing character genuinely worth preserving.

When most of those forces point in the same direction, the early planning path becomes clearer. When they conflict, a property review is more valuable than a generic rule.
